SOLON, Ohio – September 8, 2022 – HDT Global (HDT), a leading manufacturer and integrator of highly-engineered, unmanned, robotics, platform, and expeditionary solutions across defense, aerospace and government markets, announced today that it has been selected to provide a PPE Fluid Leakage Testing System to the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The testing system will allow the CDC to assess the effectiveness of glove / gown interfaces in the equipment that healthcare personnel use to protect against exposure to infectious blood or other bodily fluids, as well as develop a standard protocol for testing PPE. The system will give manufacturers the ability to more effectively evaluate their personal protective equipment (PPE) products and develop new products to reduce or eliminate fluid leakage at the glove / gown interface.

The system is comprised of a mannequin with an anthropomorphic robotic arm capable of performing movements similar to a human arm, enclosed in a chamber that will allow the spraying and soaking of the PPE gear. HDT has partnered with Paragon Robotics for this effort and will provide the robotic arm and mannequin, while Paragon will provide the enclosure and user interface.

“HDT Global has pioneered major advancements in robotic arms,” stated Dr. Tom Van Doren, Vice President of Blade Works, HDT’s engineering innovation center. “Our early work with The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory on the Modular Prosthetic Limb (MPL) system gives us the ability to deliver a robotic arm that provides near human dexterity in a package that weighs as much as a natural limb and is a critical component of this much-needed test system.

“We are pleased to add the Department of Health and Human Services to the growing list of customers using our innovative robotic systems,” added Juan Navarro, President and CEO of HDT Global. “By providing this critical testing system to the CDC, we are living our commitment to serve and protect those that serve and protect us, whether it’s on the battlefield, in the laboratory or on the hospital floor.”
