Textile Manufacturing

Manufacturing and delivering parachute products that meet rigid quality and best-of-class standards is a function of the expert workmanship that is applied to every product that leaves our factories.

Every aspect of the production is carried out with meticulous attention from measurement, cutting, stitching to the precision of the assembly. Our manufacturing teams know and understand fabric, applying the latest and most modern fabric for optimized fabric fit-weight, aerodynamic and structural performance. This expert workmanship has been a trademark of our reputation and reflects the confidence that our customers place in our parachute products. The Airborne Systems manufacturing operations for parachute and parachute systems are flexible, capable of fast set-up to produce any system component. No other parachute company in the world can match the high volume production capability of the Airborne Systems manufacturing facilities. All fabric components are manufactured in house. Additional manufacturing capabilities include:

• High-density pressure packing
• Vacuum and heat setting
• Radio frequency bonding

The manufacturing process, experienced team and a demanding QA process ensures that quality product, meeting or exceeding specifications, is delivered every time. The Airborne Systems team of engineers design and conduct parachute flight tests with a wide range of payloads. We can configure almost any required weight or mass property. With the most extensive set of test equipment, video and photo test measurement, on-board instrumentation, dummy and live testing, and access to several delivery aircraft and drop zones, the Airborne Systems flight testing and parachute system qualification is unsurpassed in the industry.

Metal Manufacturing

For over 50 years, Airborne Systems has been designing and manufacturing high quality, precision metal components for the parachute, aerospace and defense industries as well as for other sectors. At our manufacturing base in the UK (Llangeinor, South Wales) we offer an extensive range of services, from a one-stop design and manufacturing solution through to build to print manufacturing, benefiting from 3,300 sq m (35000 ft) of modern facilities and a continued investment program in manufacturing capability. The manufacturing processes offered include:

• Milling
• Turning
• Pressing
• Tooling manufacture and maintenance
• Large and light fabrication and assembly
• Finishing

Quality Control

Airborne Systems’ robust quality control program offers the following alongside a rigorous supplier selection:

• statistical reporting (SPC)
• capability reporting and quality planning including first article inspection, whenever necessary.

Our data-logging inspection equipment to include:

• Tensile and compression test equipment
• Calibrated electronic load-cells for proof loading and destructive testing of mechanical parts.
• Digital measurement equipment
• Profile projectors in lab and in the workshop for line inspection
• CMM machines featuring automatic measurement of both finished and part-finished components.
• Temperature-controlled room
